About Exhibition
Landscape and city, tradition and contemporary, such are matters that seem bipolar yet symbiotic. “Mountain Whispers in the Town” tries to tell the stories of Shanshui (traditional Chinese landscape paintings) using the language of the city, and lead audiences to experience life, Hygge style.
The exhibition shows two sets of Shum’snew works – Hong Kong Jieziyuan Huapu (The Painting Book of the Mustard Seed Garden) and a series of ink paintings.
About Artist
Shum Kwan Yi
Shum was born in Hong Kong in 1995. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2018 and studied as an exchange student in Nagoya Zokei University of Art & Design, Japan.
Specialising in Chinese landscape painting, Shum seeks the possibilities of contemporary landscape paintings through her works, in search of the intimate connection between man and nature. Shum wants to bridge the gap between “tradition and contemporaneity”, “life and art”, “man and nature”. Through the minute details of landscape motifs, she encourages people to slow down in a fast-paced world and guide them to rethink other possibilities of living.
Shum has exhibited widely in art fairs and has received several awards, including Professor Raymond Fung Award for Chinese Painting, Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) Award, Sovereign Art Foundation Hong Kong Students’ Prize; her works are eminent among private collectors.
