Thank you for supporting the June 2015 “JCCAC Handicraft Fair”

Even the flaming sun and the summer heat are no deterrents to the enthusiastic participants of the JCCAC Handicraft Fair over the weekend of 20 and 21 June 2015.

It was the first time that JCCAC piloted extending the Fair to certain communal spaces on the upper floors of JCCAC. It killed two birds with one stone, by improving the overcrowded condition at the lower floor locations and increasing the number of available stalls by 15% to accommodate more aspiring artisans; in fact, new participants (including a number of NGOs serving the less privileged) accounted for around half of all participants at the Fair in June.

Thanks to the handicraft community’s staunch support and the popularity of the event among the public, the number of applications received for each Fair is overwhelming. Due to limited space, many applicants had to be disappointed, but hopefully they should not have problem finding other suitable choices and opportunities to flex their muscles in the current flourishing bazaar scene. In fact, many handicraft artisans are also setting up virtual stores online through platforms like Pinkoi, Etsy and Taobao. Nonetheless, the human touch of sharing ideas and building relationships face to face is a unique joy that perhaps remains to be experienced only in person at the handicraft fair.

As a self-financed, non-profit organisation promoting arts and culture within limited resources, JCCAC will continue to organise the “JCCAC Handicraft Fair” around once every quarter. In fact, the Fair which provides a creative platform to support the natural development of handcraft culture is just one among JCCAC’s programmes. Hence during the Fair, visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy other arts and culture programmes organised by JCCAC (including guided tour of arts studios, plus programmes on the roof terrace like the alternative free market, free stage, open air movie under the stars and post-screening talk) and experienced a joyful and fulfilling weekend in a relaxed environment.

Two more weekends of JCCAC Handicraft Fairs are scheduled in 2015:
  • 19 & 20 September 2015  (Now open for stall application until 27 July, for details please click here )
  • 28 & 29 November 2015

About JCCAC Handicraft Fair
Organised quarterly by JCCAC, the Fair provides a competitive platform for handcraft artisans to sell their works, understand the market and find inspiration for their creativity. It is also an opportunity for the public to meet handcraft artisans and appreciate their passion and effort, thus helping to support creative development in Hong Kong. Various arts and cultural programmes (including movie screening on the roof terrace, guided tour of open studios, an alternative free market, a free stage, etc.) are organised by JCCAC during the Fair. Also, some arts studios are open to the public with independently organised programmes (exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, etc.) and sales activities (of artworks and other items independently arranged by the arts studio itself, which do not form part of the official Fair selections).
